Membership Benefits

Member resources are facilities and references available as part of PMUG membership. These resources, which are all available between and during monthly meetings, include:

Members

The members of PMUG are themselves resources to other members. PMUG is an excellent forum for exchanging ideas, discussing problems, and making business contacts. The membership is a diverse group of Mac enthusiasts which includes business owners, accountants, artists, engineers, programmers, lawyers, doctors, and educators. Not only is PMUG a good place to learn, it's also a great place to make friends.

Our year-end party (80K JPG) provides members not only with bites, but also bytes (the computer kind.)
Members most often contact other members at monthly membership meetings. Our How and Why SIG (Special Interest Group) provides a more intimate forum for new users. As you meet your fellow members, you will find others with similar interests and those with expertise who can help or suggest avenues towards solutions. To directly contact a member, a list of members' e-mail addresses are published in the monthly club DIALOG newsletter.

The DIALOG Newsletter

PMUG publishes an informative monthly newsletter, called DIALOG, for its members. About 20 pages long, the newsletter is full of Macintosh industry news, special articles on understanding basic Macintosh functions, hardware and software reviews, commentary, helpful tips, a calendar of upcoming events, and meeting location. DIALOG also includes valuable references, such as listings of members' e-mail addresses, library holdings, classifieds, a concise summary of the previous month's presentation and question-and-answer sessions, and available discounts.

Have a look below at past DIALOG covers.

DIALOG also provides an easily accessible voice to the membership. Figure out a bug? Hate a piece of hardware? Love a piece of software? Found an awesome service? Aching to tell someone? Tell PMUG! The editor is always looking for fresh articles about anything Mac related. Furthermore, many of the articles written by PMUG members have been printed in other publications.

DIALOG is an electronic-only publication in .PDF (Acrobat) format and can be downloaded from the members' area, and it's a fine example of the extraordinary participation of the PMUG membership. Most of the articles are written by PMUG members. Layout, editing, and mailing are done by PMUG members. And, duplication services are donated by a PMUG member.

The PMUG Hotline

PMUG maintains a telephone voice hotline which plays a prerecorded message relaying critical club information. Notices, such as last-minute meeting changes, may be found here. No messages may be received by the PMUG Hotline. The hotline phone number is (609) 924-7140.

The Book, CD, and Video Library

PMUG maintains a book, CD, and video library for its members. Subjects covered include: desktop publishing techniques, using online services, scripting, resource editing, using popular application programs, using System 7, and finding shareware. A current listing of holdings can be found in the PMUG DIALOG newsletter.

Books, CDs, and videos may be loaned for one month at a time. Members may pick up material at the monthly meeting, then return the material at the next monthly meeting. Members may reserve books, CDs, and videos in advance by contacting the librarian.

Disk Utility Software

PMUG has setup a special utility software lending binder at Creative Computing for use by members. Any current member may borrow either DiskWarrior 2 & 3, TechTool Pro 4 or Drive Genius for 3 days. These are powerful utilities designed to repair disk damage on your systems, so if you are having difficulties with your computer, try them out!

The Members' Area Website

Members' Area main page
After logging into the members' area, members-only content can be accessed as explained below. This screen shot (64K GIF) shows the main menu.
This Website is exclusively for members of the Princeton Macintosh Users Group. All members in good standing can access this site's contents:

  • Chat and Help Lists
Members can join two private e-mail lists. The first, the chat list, is for general Macintosh discussion. Hear about the latest for the Mac, tips for better productivity, the good and the bad, and Mac equipment to buy or sell.

The second is the help list, and gives members a way to ask and solve Mac-related problems they have.

  • DIALOG Newsletter
Full DIALOG newsletters are available for download in Acrobat (pdf) format. The newsletter is archived back to 1999.
